Part 1: "The Law of Witchcraft"

https://horrorstory1600.blogspot.com

Year 1487, Germany.
In the dark alleys of the church, a book was being secretly written—
its name was Malleus Maleficarum (Latin for "The Hammer of Witches").

The book stated:

"Women are naturally weak. They are easily deceived by the devil.
Witches make deals with the devil, and he grants them power—
in return, they worship him, sacrifice innocent children, and desecrate God’s church."

The book spread across Europe.
Its influence began to be felt in villages and towns.
People started to believe that behind every illness, famine, or misfortune, there was a witch.

Bramberg Village, Germany — 1512
In the center of the village stood a church.
The priest held the book in his hands and told the villagers:

"Among us hide witches. This book tells how to identify them—
if a woman lives alone, heals with herbs, goes out at night,
or if milk curdles at her sight—know that she is a witch."

The villagers were terrified.
Every woman came under suspicion.
Among them was Martha Köhler, a widow who healed sick children.

The Accusation
When a famine struck the village and many children died, all fingers pointed at her.
People said:

"Martha goes into the forest at night."
"Milk curdles when she looks at it."
"She has cursed our children."

The priest opened the book and read aloud:
"The woman who gives people herbs to heal them is the real witch.
The devil grants her power to deceive people."

That was enough.
Martha was imprisoned in the church’s dungeon.

Torture
The book clearly stated that torture was necessary to force a witch to confess, in service to God.

Martha was placed on an iron chair, covered with thousands of spikes.
Blood flowed from her body.
Then her hands and feet were bound, and she was submerged in boiling water.

The priest asked:
"Admit that you made a pact with the devil."

Martha screamed:
"I am innocent… I have harmed no one…"

But the book said:
"If a woman denies it, it means the devil sits on her tongue.
Then torture must continue until she confesses."

Confession
She was tortured for three days.
Finally, broken, she said what they wanted to hear:

"Yes… the devil came to me…
He said that if I gave him my word, he would grant me power…
I refused… but he forced me…"

The priest shouted:
"Did you all hear? This woman is a servant of the devil!"

Punishment
The book was clear:
"A witch must be burned alive. This is God’s justice."

On the morning of March 9, 1513, the entire village gathered in the square.
A pile of wood was stacked.
Martha was tied to a post.

The villagers watched—
as the flames consumed her body, her eyes remained open.
Her screams were so terrifying that several children fainted.
And then—her ashes were scattered by the wind.

Curse
That night, cold winds suddenly blew through the village streets.
Dogs howled.
Villagers dreamed that Martha stood in their homes with her burning body.
She said:
"You will all burn in my fire… this book will bring you to the devil too…"

Terrified, villagers fled from their homes.
Within a few years, Bramberg Village became deserted.

But instead of burning the book, the church began to spread it further.
From 1513 to 1600, thousands of women were burned in the same way.

16th Century: Court of Demons
Part 2: "The Night Flight"

Year 1515, Germany.
Two years after Martha was burned, the church began enforcing the second decree from the book Malleus Maleficarum.

What the Book Said
The book stated:

"Witches surrender their bodies to the devil at night.
They fly through the air to his court.
There they feast, make pacts with the devil, and plot destruction against humans.
If anyone claims to have seen them flying, that alone is sufficient evidence."

The Beginning of Fear

https://horrorstory1600.blogspot.com

In the small village of Würzburg, a sudden rumor spread—
"At night, women are flying through the air…!"

A villager said:
"I saw it at midnight from my window—three women flying on brooms like horses. Their hair was loose, and their bodies were covered in black smoke."

Another man testified:
"In the morning, my cow was dead… and last night, I saw those same women at my window."

That was enough.
The village priest announced:
"The book says witches fly at night.
If people give testimony, we must capture them and carry out God’s justice."

The Devil’s Court
The villagers believed that these women went to the forest at night to hold Black Sabbath gatherings.
There, the devil appeared in the form of a black goat.
The witches danced before him, worshipping him with blood.
Sometimes the devil marked their bodies—a mark that never faded.

The book stated:

"If a woman has a mole, a blemish, or a mark on her body, know that it is the devil’s sign."

The Beginning of the Hunt
Six women were captured in the village.
They were brought before the church.

The priest examined their bodies.
One had an old scar on her leg — it was declared: “This is the devil’s mark.”
Another had a mole on her hand — it was declared: “This is the witch’s sign.”

Then the same tortures began —
iron chairs, burning with torches, immersion in water.
And after each torture, the same question was asked:
"Admit that you have served the devil."

Confession
Enduring the tortures, the women began to speak:
"Yes… we fly at night…
We feast in the forest…
The devil comes before us as a black goat…
He has marked our bodies…"

The villagers trembled in fear.
Now they were convinced that witches truly existed.

The Burning Night
On a cold night in 1515, piles of wood were stacked in the village square.
The six women were bound and placed on the pyre.
People shouted — “Burn them… burn them in the name of God!”

As the fire was lit, the women screamed.
But among their cries, a strange voice was heard —
as if the wind itself were speaking:
"You have killed us… but we will return…
In every home, in every dream, we will return…"

The flames rose to the sky.
Children in the village began to cry.
And that same night, a stench spread throughout the village — as if the ashes were still alive.

The Book’s Influence
The book’s command was clear —
"Destroying a witch is serving God.
Whoever saves her is also a servant of the devil."

After this, witch hunts intensified in European villages.
From 1515 to 1530, just in Germany alone, 900 women were burned alive.

Part 3: "The Theft of Power and the Season of Destruction"

Year 1520, Germany.
The church’s book Malleus Maleficarum had now spread to every village across Europe.

What the Book Said
"Witches steal the strength of men, weakening their courage and health.
Children’s illnesses and famine are also the result of their black magic.
They can control the weather — stopping rain, bringing storms.
If any man has resisted or seen a witch, he too must suffer — by death or disability."

The Beginning of Fear
Consider the story of one family in the village of Würzburg —
farmer Hans Müller’s two children fell ill.
The villagers said:
"A witch has cast spells on your children."

Hans considered himself innocent.
But his wife said:
"Look, the book says — if a witch attacks, the only remedy is punishment and fire."

Hans was terrified.
The next night, he saw a hazy shadow peering into his children’s room from the sky.
He ran screaming to them, but the shadow dissolved into the air.

Demonic Powers
The book stated that witches steal men’s courage at night.

A farmer plowing his field becomes exhausted.
A soldier raising his sword loses his strength.
A merchant conducting trade loses the skill in his hands.

In Würzburg, Hans could no longer work effectively.
And his children’s condition worsened day by day.

The Terror of the Weather
The book also stated:

"Witches can change the weather.
Famine, floods, storms, hail — all are the result of their magic."

In the summer of 1520, famine struck the village.
Normally the fields were green, but suddenly the weather changed.

No rain fell.
The sun blazed down.
Crops withered.

The villagers trembled in fear.
According to the book, that very night they went out on a night patrol to catch witches.

Capture and Punishment
The village priest gave the same order again —
"Women who fly at night, steal men’s strength, and disrupt the weather, capture them and throw them into the fire."

This time, eight women were caught in the village.
One had a scar on her leg, another a mole on her hand, a third a black mark on her ear —
all marks, according to the book, were signs of the devil.

The torture was the same — iron chairs, burning torches, immersion in water.
Each confessed that she served the devil and stole men’s strength.

A Horrific End

https://horrorstory1600.blogspot.com

As the fire consumed the piles of wood, the women screamed as they were engulfed in flames.
But in their screams was now not only pain, but a warning for the future —
"Those who take pleasure in our death will see our next generation of witches among their children."

The villagers cowered in their homes in fear.
But the book’s command was clear — this was only the beginning.
Unending fear, unending torture, and unending death — that was the message of Malleus Maleficarum.
