🩸 Kuchisake-onna: The Slit-Mouthed Night of Tokyo (Part 1)
Location: Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan
Time: November 1979 — The Beginning of the Rumors
Atmosphere: Early winter, thick fog, and shadows of fear
Prologue: The First Shock of the Rumor
It was a pitch-black November night. In the small town of Ōmori-machi, located in Shizuoka Prefecture, the air felt unusually cold — as if invisible breaths were swirling around. Lately, children had been warned to return home before dark. Warning posters were hung outside schools:
“A mysterious woman in a mask is approaching children and asking strange questions. Be cautious!”
But Hayato Fujioka, a 13-year-old eighth grader, thought it was all a joke. He often stayed out late with his friends. That evening, he was walking home alone, crossing the old bridge near the Shizuoka railway line.
The darkness was deep and ink-like. Streetlights flickered with a sickly yellow glow.
Suddenly — a rustling sound.
Hayato stopped.
Out of the fog emerged a woman — her head lowered, long black hair covering her face, wearing a white coat, and a surgical mask over her mouth.
She moved very slowly.
“Are you... okay?” Hayato asked nervously.
The woman raised her head. Her eyes were hollow and lifeless.
She softly asked:
"Watashi, kirei?" (Am I pretty?)
Hayato chuckled.
“Yeah… you’re pretty.”
Then she slowly removed her mask…
Her mouth...
It was slit open from ear to ear. Torn flesh, blood, exposed jaw — no lips.
"Kore demo... kirei?" (Even now... am I still pretty?)
Hayato opened his mouth to scream — but it was too late.
His cries dissolved into the fog.
The next morning, all they found near the bridge was a blood-soaked schoolbag.
🩸 Part 2: The Shadow of Komagawa Middle School
Location: An old school in Tokyo — Komagawa Middle School
Time: January 1980 — The rumor reaches the capital
The Silence in the School
At Tokyo’s old Komagawa Middle School, the rumor had grown into full-blown fear. Parents began coming to pick up their children. The name echoed in every hallway:
“Kuchisake-onna is here!”
Ayaka Takeshita, a quiet and intelligent 15-year-old student, didn’t believe the stories. Her mother was a nurse, so Ayaka often went to and from school alone.
One winter evening, after staying late in the library, she was walking home through a foggy alley.
This alley was a narrow, eerie street near the school, known as "Kuroi Yamichō" (Black Street of Shadows).
Suddenly, she heard whispering…
“Watashi… kirei?”
Ayaka froze.
She turned around — no one was there.
But ahead... a woman was standing.
White coat stained with blood. In her hand — a pair of rusty scissors. Her face — hidden behind a surgical mask.
Ayaka ran.
The voice echoed from all directions:
“Watashi… kirei?”
Her breath quickened, eyes filled with tears. Then she remembered what her mother had told her:
“If you ever feel scared, say 'pomade'. Just say it.”
Terrified, she screamed:
"Pomade! Pomade! Pomade!"
The air fell silent.
The woman’s eyes widened in shock. Her body trembled, and in an instant — she vanished into the fog.
Ayaka had survived... but the question remained:
Who would be next?
