Shamshan Ghat (The Last Path)
Part 1: Fire, the Bet, and the Curse
In the southern part of England, there was an old little town called Ravensbrook. This town was famous for its mysterious winds, dense forests, and the centuries-old St. Hallow Graveyard. People often whispered that restless souls roamed the graveyard and the nearby cremation ground, and that stepping there at night was the same as embracing death.
But six students of Ravensbrook High School, located right in the middle of the town, dismissed all of this as superstition. Their names were:
-
Ethan Walker (the most mischievous and the leader of the gang)
-
Jacob Morris (stubborn and hot-tempered)
-
Ryan Fletcher (cowardly, but dragged along by his friends)
-
Liam Carter (smart but arrogant)
-
Noah Hudson (funny, always taking things lightly)
-
Aaron Blake (quiet, reserved, but with dark and mysterious thoughts inside)
They were always busy making jokes, causing trouble, and pulling pranks on others.
The Beginning of the Bet
One day, during a school assembly, the principal jokingly said:
“Whoever brings ashes from a burning pyre in Ravensbrook Graveyard and cooks rice pudding with it will get everything free at school for one year — food in the canteen, books, sports equipment, everything.”
The entire school burst into laughter, but for Ethan and his gang, this challenge ignited their pride. They decided: no matter what, even if it cost them their lives, they would fulfill this bet.
Death and Opportunity
A week later, something strange happened in Ravensbrook. A woman named Margaret Holloway committed suicide. That very evening, she was buried in the graveyard.
When Ethan and his friends heard the news, their ears perked up. This was their chance. They thought:
“Since no pyre is burning, why not dig up her grave, pull out the body, and burn it ourselves?”
The others hesitated, but Ethan forced them to agree.
The Locked Gate of the Cremation
Ground
At exactly midnight, the six boys set out toward the cremation ground, carrying flashlights, ropes, shovels, and firewood in their bags. A thick black fog surrounded them, and the air reeked of rotten soil and wet blood.
When they reached the cremation ground, they found a huge rusted iron lock hanging on the gate. Jacob tried with all his strength to break it, but it wouldn’t budge.
“This lock wasn’t made for humans…” Aaron whispered softly.
But Ethan snapped, “Cut the nonsense. We’ll climb the wall.”
Ryan trembled, “N-no… this isn’t right. We should go back.”
The others laughed at him. Finally, they left Ryan outside while the five of them jumped over the wall.
Digging the Grave
Inside, the atmosphere was chilling. Broken old graves, whisper-like sounds in the air, and crows perched on trees cawing continuously.
Liam’s flashlight beam landed on a freshly dug grave — the soil still damp. It was Margaret Holloway’s.
Ethan said, “This is it… this is our key.”
Noah smirked, “Better hurry, before her ghost climbs out on its own.”
Jacob and Aaron picked up shovels and began digging. With every strike, a foul stench seeped out of the soil. The others started arranging the wood.
Ryan stood at a distance, shivering. He felt like invisible eyes were piercing into his back.
Pulling Out the Corpse
By midnight, the coffin surfaced. Jacob angrily smashed its lid open.
Inside was the rotting corpse of Margaret Holloway. Her face was bluish, black froth stuck to her lips, and her eyes were half-open — as if she was still glaring at someone.
Ryan screamed, “Stop it! This is wrong!”
But Ethan laughed, “Coward… drag her out.”
They pulled the corpse out. The moment it hit the ground, the crows went wild, screeching loudly.
The Funeral Fire
The firewood was stacked. Aaron pulled out a lighter and set it ablaze. As soon as the body was thrown into the fire, a horrifying scream echoed across the graveyard:
“Aaaaaaaaahhhhhh!”
The sound was so terrifying it numbed their ears. The flames roared fiercely, but something else happened — a black fog swirled around them, growing thicker and thicker.
Ethan said, “This is just our imagination. Don’t be scared.”
But Aaron’s eyes widened. In the flames, he saw dark shadows dancing — as if beings from another world had emerged.
Running Home
Terrified, the five of them (Ryan still stood outside) finally ran off. As soon as they jumped the wall, they sighed in relief.
But that relief didn’t last. On the way back, each of them saw something terrifying:
-
Jacob saw the same woman standing at a crossroads, her face completely burned.
-
Noah heard footsteps behind him, but when he turned, no one was there.
-
Liam felt someone whisper in his ear: “You will burn in fire…”
-
Ethan saw his own shadow separate from him and smile.
-
Aaron saw black marks rising on his arm, like a dead hand had gripped him tightly.
Still, somehow, they made it home.
Nightmares
That night, all of them had the same dream. No — it wasn’t a dream, it felt real. They were standing around a burning pyre, and in the middle stood Margaret Holloway. She was completely charred, and blood was dripping from her eyes.
She said:
“You disturbed my sleep… Now I will never let you rest in peace.”
The First Death
For three days, they lived in fear and unease. On the fourth morning, the news spread: Noah Hudson was found dead in his room.
His body was in a terrifying state — as if he had burned himself alive. Yet there were no traces of fire in the room.
The remaining five were horrified.
The Game of Death Begins
Four days later, the friends met again. Their faces clearly showed fear, exhaustion, and madness. They told each other everything they had experienced.
Then Ethan said, “This is just coincidence. We must face it together and end this.”
But at that moment, the lights flickered. A cold wind blew in through the window, and they all felt invisible hands clutching their throats.
Aaron whispered quietly:
“This is only the beginning… The naked dance of death is about to begin.”

The Cremation Ground (The Last Path)
Part 2: The Naked Dance of Death
A strange silence had settled over the town of Ravensbrook. The suicide of Margaret Holloway and the mysterious death of Noah Hudson had shaken the entire place. But people were only speculating—the truth was known to no one. The truth was buried only among the five boys, whose souls were still trapped in that cursed cremation ground from that fateful night.
Day One – The Return of Fear
After Noah’s death, the remaining five—Ethan, Jacob, Ryan, Liam, and Aaron—gathered together. Their meeting place was Ethan’s old house, hidden away in the darkest alley of Ravensbrook.
The room’s door was locked, candles flickering on all sides. Their faces were pale with exhaustion, their eyes bloodshot from sleepless nights.
Jacob shouted angrily,
"What we did was just a game. There are no ghosts! Noah was insane—that’s why he died."
But Ryan, trembling, whispered,
"No… I saw her. She came into my room at night. Her face was burned… and she told me I was next."
Aaron, who had been silent until now, finally spoke in a low voice,
"She’ll take us one by one. We opened her grave, burned her soul… now she’s made us a part of her."
Suddenly, all the candles went out. In the darkness, they all heard the same voice—
"You all belong to me…"
The Second Death – Jacob
The next night, Jacob was home alone. To calm himself, he drank heavily. He turned on the TV, but the screen only showed static noise.
Suddenly, an image appeared—Margaret Holloway. Her half-burnt face, red eyes, rotting teeth. She stared at Jacob and hissed—
"You disturbed my sleep… now I’ll burn you."
Jacob screamed and switched off the TV. But at that very moment, flames erupted in his kitchen. He rushed for water, but blood poured out of the faucet instead.
His breathing quickened. He ran to the door—but it was locked. Smoke filled the room, flames closing in.
Jacob’s scream tore through the night. By morning, when the police arrived, they found his charred corpse in the corner. On the wall, written in blood, were the words:
“Two down… Four to go.”
The Third Death – Ryan
Ryan was already terrified. He decided to leave Ravensbrook altogether. That night, he reached the station to catch a train. The platform was deserted.
Suddenly, he saw her—Margaret—standing on the tracks. Burned face, hollow eyes. She stretched out her hand and whispered,
"Where will you run?"
Ryan staggered backward, trembling. Just then, the train’s whistle shrieked. In his ears echoed a thousand screams at once. He felt an invisible shove from behind.
Ryan fell straight onto the tracks, and the train shredded his body apart.
But witnesses claimed they saw him jump on his own—as if pulled by some unseen force.
Liam’s Doom
Now only three remained—Ethan, Liam, and Aaron.
Liam, arrogant as ever, decided he would defeat the spirit. He went to the St. Hallow Library, where ancient texts on curses and black magic were stored.
One passage read:
"If a soul is dug up from its grave and burned on a pyre, it becomes defiled. It will not rest until the one who burned it has also been thrown into the same flames."
Shaken, Liam closed the book. Suddenly, a voice whispered from behind—
"You too must burn…"
He turned—Margaret stood there. Her hair full of ash, a burning torch in her hand.
The library erupted into flames. Liam tried to escape, but the doors were sealed shut. He smashed a window and leapt—but there was no ground below.
By morning, his mangled body was found by the riverbank.
Ethan and Aaron – The Last Two
Only Ethan and Aaron were left.
Ethan, who had always been the leader, now looked broken. He told Aaron,
"We made a mistake… we have to end this."
Aaron’s eyes gleamed red. His voice was cold.
"No, Ethan. This wasn’t a mistake… this was the beginning."
Ethan froze.
"What do you mean?"
Aaron slowly smirked.
"You thought it was just a prank? No… I wanted that grave opened. I wanted her spirit awake. She belongs to me now. I am her master."
Ethan’s blood ran cold. The truth was out—Aaron was obsessed with black magic. He had deliberately provoked them into freeing the cursed spirit.
But Aaron’s delusion shattered instantly. For in that moment, Margaret’s shriek pierced the air—
"You all belong to me… No one controls me."
The Final Dance
Both Ethan and Aaron were dragged into the Ravensbrook Graveyard. The walls opened on their own.
In the darkness of night, five burning spirits circled them—Noah, Jacob, Ryan, Liam, and Margaret.
Aaron screamed,
"No! I am your master! I—"
His cry was cut short, as his body burst into flames.
Ethan tried to run, but Margaret gripped his throat, lifting him off the ground.
"You were the first to disturb my sleep. Now the last path is yours."
The fire swallowed Ethan whole.
The End of the Cremation Ground
By morning, townsfolk found the ashes of all five boys scattered in different corners of the Ravensbrook Graveyard.
On the wall, written in blood, were the words:
“The Last Path is Mine.”
The graveyard was sealed forever. Yet, even today, people of Ravensbrook claim that at midnight, amid burning pyres, laughter and screams echo through the night.
They say—anyone who dares step into that place… must choose their “Last Path.”
