The Child of Silence – Child of Silence
Part 1: Echo of the Dead Music
By Reax
Genre: Supernatural Psychological Horror
Setting: Russia & Australia
Language: Hindi, Russian, English (Realistic Horror Novel Style)
Russia, 1996 – A cold night near
Volgograd, village of Khovrin.
The winter was so harsh that a thick layer of snow covered the entire village like a white shroud.
Everywhere, there was only the whisper of the wind and the faint toll of a broken church bell in the distance.
That night, in an old wooden house on the outskirts, Jogin Tara was born.
With her birth, something happened that would forever change the face of the village.
Her mother, Elizabeth, died drenched in blood moments after giving birth.
And when her father, Ivan Mikhailovich, was taking the newborn home from the hospital, their car fell from an old railway bridge.
The car burned to ashes —
but somehow, the baby Jogin Tara came out completely unharmed.
People said:
“That day, something moving in the snow was seen… a small shadow that picked up the child and disappeared into the forest.”
Some believed it, some laughed,
but from that day, there was never peace again in Khovrin village.
The First Shadow of Childhood
As Tara grew, the shadow of death deepened around her.
When she was only six months old, her elder brother Nikolai (14 years) was found dead in the basement of their house.
The state of the body shocked even the police —
it was covered with thousands of tiny bite marks, as if hundreds of rats had gnawed him alive.
Strangely, no rats were found in the basement.
Blood splatters on the walls formed shapes, as if someone had dragged a body across them.
At that moment, Tara was smiling in her cradle.
A smile so serene that no one could believe a death had just occurred in the same house.
Saint Petersburg Orphanage
Police and social services sent her far from the village
to an old orphanage, “Saint Peterburg’s Camroad Orphanage”,
built in 1889 and already considered haunted.
Within days of her arrival, strange events began.
At night, the sound of toys echoed from the children’s rooms.
Deep scratches appeared on the walls, as if someone clawed them.
Sometimes children died in their sleep —
necks twisted unnaturally,
and some staff were found in the middle of the night, covered in blood.
When Tara turned 18 months old,
a horrific incident ended everything.
In a single night, 42 children and 7 staff members were killed.
The scenes of death were unbearable:
faces seemed eaten from the inside,
eyes popped out,
and tongues half-bitten.
The only survivor was Jogin Tara.
She sat in her cradle, without tears, without expression,
staring at the wall,
her fingers moving as if playing with something invisible,
as though she were talking to someone in the air.
The Cursed Adoptions
Afterward, eight different families tried to adopt Tara.
With each, the same thing happened —
death, accidents, burning walls, and bodies with rat-like bite marks.
The eighth family, the Petrova family, living 40 km from Saint Petersburg in Gatchina,
experienced the most terrifying event.
At three in the morning, a neighbor saw smoke rising from their house.
When the door was broken down — the entire home had turned to black ashes.
Yet in the middle of the floor sat Tara —
in a white dress, holding a burning toy,
and smiling quietly.
She whispered:
“Mama says no one will remain now…”
The police were horrified.
The Silent Child
Now no orphanage or family was willing to take her.
The government officially declared her “Silent Child” —
a child no one was allowed to touch.
But in 2004, unexpectedly, a call came from the deep forests of Australia —
from “Ravenswood Monastery”.
An elderly priest, Father Anthony Graves, said:
“We want to take this girl. She is not a child of the devil, she is a child of God. We must free her.”
Saint Petersburg officials could not understand why someone from so far away was interested in this strange girl,
but they were relieved that she would finally be taken.
The Night of the Journey
On a cold January night, Tara was sent from Saint Petersburg airport
on Flight SU-214, destination — Melbourne, Australia.
During the flight, a flight attendant reported
that the girl kept talking to an empty seat.
“Isn’t he here?” she asked softly.
“Who, dear?” the flight attendant smiled.
The girl lowered her head and whispered:
“The one who is always with me…”
A few hours later, when the plane landed in Melbourne,
two crew members and one passenger were found dead.
Their bodies bore the same tiny bite marks,
and everywhere lay white, snow-like dust.
But there was no snow anywhere on the plane.
End of Part 1
When Tara was taken to Ravenswood Monastery,
the monks saw:
her eyes were no longer blue —
they had become a dull slate color,
and on her palms were hundreds of tiny tooth marks,
as if someone had already made her their own.
When the monastery bell rang for the first time,
blood words appeared on the walls, as if someone had written them with their own flesh:
“Silence is my mother, and hunger my friend…”
And immediately after, the entire forest plunged into darkness.
Since then, no one has dared to speak the name Ravenswood Monastery again...
🔔 Part 2: The Feast of Shadows
(In the next part: Tara’s mystery at Ravenswood Monastery, the true face of the “Hungry Shadow,” and the event that plunged an entire continent into the silence of death…)
The Child of Silence – Child of Silence
Part 2: The Feast of Shadows – छायाओं का भोज
Location: Australia, Ravenswood Monastery, deep, isolated forests of Northern Queensland
January 2004
Even the air there felt heavy, like an old book —
every gust of wind seemed to whisper some secret.
The monastery, hidden among dense trees, was completely cut off from the world —
no mobile signal, no roads,
only an old dirt path that ended as soon as it reached the monastery.
The First Night at the Monastery
When Jogin Tara was brought there, Father Anthony Graves welcomed her.
He was 78 years old, having spent his life studying ghosts and curses.
He possessed hundreds of ancient religious texts — one of them was
“De Vermis Obscura” (The Worm of Darkness),
which mentioned that some souls are born in this world
as “God’s mistake” —
they are not alive, but manifestations of silence.
Father Anthony, seeing Tara, said:
“I know who you are… you do not speak because your voice is death.”
Tara did not respond.
She only looked at her left palm, covered with tiny tooth marks —
as if someone had bitten her repeatedly, but without drawing blood.
History of the Monastery
Ravenswood Monastery was founded in 1847.
Originally, French monks lived here, claiming that beneath the forest there was a place called
“The Pit of Hunger” —
where the earth breathes, and anyone who hears it
becomes absorbed in silence.
In 1892, all 63 monks of the monastery disappeared in a single night.
On the walls, only one inscription remained:
“We have awakened the hunger.”
Since then, the monastery remained closed until Father Anthony reopened it.
The Voice That Was Not There
Tara was assigned a room —
cold walls, wooden windows, and an old mirror in the center.
It was an 18th-century mirror, called the “Confession Mirror” —
in which one could see their sins.
When everyone went to sleep,
Tara rose and quietly stood before the mirror.
She saw herself —
but behind her, another face appeared.
It was not hers.
The face smiled… and quietly spoke:
“Now the time has come… let me out.”
The next morning, a young monk, Father Luke, was missing.
His room was locked from the inside.
When the door was broken open, only his shoes and tiny fragments of bones were found on the floor.
Father Anthony’s Diary (Actual Excerpt)
“February 5, 2004:
The girl’s face has completely changed.
Her eyes are no longer human.
At night, when I pray, the walls speak.
They say — ‘Silence is hungry.’
I reread ‘De Vermis Obscura’ — it says that this girl is a Devourer of Voices.
She consumes other souls through their words.”
Seventh Day
Prayers continued in the monastery for seven days.
Father Anthony kept Tara isolated,
but every night, sounds of chewing came from some part of the monastery —
as if someone was eating the walls.
On the eighth morning, the monastery bell rang on its own.
And everyone saw —
shadows crawling on the walls, changing shape,
and from them emerged hundreds of tiny mouse-like creatures.
They were not real,
made of mist — but they bit with real teeth.
They all gathered around Tara.
She opened her eyes —
and for the first time spoke:
“Now the feast of Silence begins.”
(“अब खामोशी का भोज शुरू होता है।”)
The Feast of Shadows
Within moments, the entire monastery was engulfed in darkness.
What Father Anthony saw, he recorded in his final diary:
“I saw a massive shadow behind Tara.
Its face was female, but it had no eyes — just two empty sockets.
Misty mice circled around her.
She absorbed everyone in the monastery.
There were no screams, only silence… and the faint sound of chewing.”
The next morning, in the forest, only ashes and a white dress remained.
No trace of Tara was found.
Years Later…
In 2011, an archaeological team from Brisbane University excavated the ruins of Ravenswood.
They found an iron chest containing a small diary and a child’s bones.
The last line of the diary read:
“The Child of Silence will return when hunger wakes again...”
(“खामोशी की संतान तब लौटेगी जब भूख फिर जागेगी...”)
That same night,
dozens of people in Brisbane suburbs reported the same thing —
they heard the sound of gnawing from inside the walls of their homes.
Not the End…
Tara’s story did not end there.
It is said that in Khovrin village, Russia, where she was born,
an old mansion still holds her toy box —
which opens on its own every winter night.
And when someone hears sounds from that box…
the next day, their tongue disappears.
🕯️ The Child of Silence – खामोशी की संतान
“She neither cries nor laughs…
She only smiles when someone speaks for the last time.”
