🩸 Shape-Shifter (Aswang) 🩸
(A terrifying tale – based on the most horrifying legend of the Philippines)
📜 Historical Background
Mentions of the Aswang are found in many old Spanish-era manuscripts and documents.
-
In the 16th century, Spanish missionaries learned from locals that at night a demon called “Asuwang” attacked pregnant women and infants.
-
In 1582, Spanish priest Father Juan de Plasencia described it in his work “Relacion de las Costumbres de los Tagalos.”
-
Later, in 1890, Filipino writer Maximo Ramos compiled folklore where the Aswang was detailed extensively.
Who was the first victim?
It is said that the first recorded victim was a young pregnant woman from the Visayas region named Maria del Rosario. In a Catholic church record from 1593, it is written that she was found dead in her hut — her stomach ripped open, the fetus missing. Villagers said: “This was the work of the Aswang.”
Part 1 – “The Tick-Tick Sound”
The village of Silay in the Visayas region of the Philippines had always lived under fear and mystery. People said: if, in the dead of night, you hear “tick-tick… tick-tick…”, beware — the Aswang is near.
🌑 A Dark Night
It was a stormy, rainy night. The sky was thick with black clouds, lightning split the darkness.
Lucinda, seven months pregnant, lay alone in her small hut. Her husband was out working in the fields, and she kept waking up from uneasy sleep. Suddenly, she heard faint footsteps creaking across the bamboo roof.
Her heart pounded hard.
From outside came the strange echoing sound — “tick-tick… tick-tick…”.
🦇 The Sinister Shadow
Lucinda peered through the window and saw a dark figure in the distance. Its eyes glowed like burning coals, and its tongue, long and snake-like, flickered out.
The figure floated slowly toward her hut.
Then, from above, came a scratching noise, as though claws were tearing through the bamboo roof.
Lucinda screamed, but the village lay silent.
⚔️ An Ancient Warning
Lucinda remembered her grandmother’s warning:
“If the Aswang comes, keep garlic and salt with you, or it will rip the baby right out of your womb.”
With trembling hands, she grabbed a clove of garlic from the wooden cabinet and threw it at the door.
The moment the garlic hit the ground, the scratching stopped.
But then, through the window, a long black tongue slithered inside — darting straight for her belly.
Lucinda shrieked — and everything went dark before her eyes.

Part 2 – “The Curse of Blood”
🌑 Terror in the Village
By morning, screams echoed across Silay.
Lucinda’s hut was wide open. When her husband Miguel returned from the fields, he found her lying unconscious on the floor. Her face was pale and dried out, as if all her blood had been drained.
On her stomach were deep scratch marks… and the most horrifying of all — her womb was empty.
The baby was gone.
Miguel screamed like a madman:
“This isn’t human work… this is the Aswang!”
Villagers gathered quickly. Fear filled everyone’s eyes, because this wasn’t the first time. Just a month ago, another woman had died in a mysterious way, as if from a cursed miscarriage.
🦇 The True Form of the Aswang
The village elder, Don Rafael, gathered everyone and said:
“The Aswang is a shape-shifter. In the daytime it lives among us, disguised as a neighbor, a friend, or even a woman. But at night, it becomes a monster with claws and a long tongue.”
He added:
“The tick-tick sound… if it seems close, it means the Aswang is still far away. But if it sounds far, it’s actually right above you.”
The villagers froze in terror. Each one began to suspect that the Aswang might be hiding among them.
⚰️ The Church’s Secret
Miguel, shaken by his wife’s condition, went to Saint Rosario Church.
There, the old priest Father Gil pulled out an ancient book — “Relacion de las Costumbres de los Tagalos” (1582).
The text read clearly:
“The Aswang was once human… a cursed woman given eternal hunger. She is doomed to eat the flesh of infants and the dead. If she does not feed, she burns alive and turns to ash.”
The priest handed Miguel a holy amulet and a vial of sacred oil:
“This may protect your wife. But remember — the Aswang can only be killed by a spear of iron… or by cutting off its head.”
🌌 Night of Horror
Darkness fell again. The villagers stood watch.
But by midnight, from deep within the forest, came the same sound: tick-tick… tick-tick…
Shadows appeared on rooftops.
A winged creature with glowing red eyes circled above the huts.
Miguel hid his wife, but once again the Aswang’s tongue slithered toward the window.
This time, Miguel quickly splashed the sacred oil.
The Aswang shrieked, smoke swirling around its body, before it smashed through the roof and burst inside.
🩸 The Bloody Attack
Villagers rushed in, armed with bamboo spears.
But when they saw it, their blood ran cold:
The Aswang’s body was half human, half beast.
Its wings spread wide like a giant bat.
Its stomach was covered with swollen boils, crawling with worms.
Its tongue, longer than any serpent, darted straight toward Lucinda’s belly.
The villagers’ spears pierced its flesh, but the monster howled and hurled them into the air.
It tore open a young man’s throat and drank his blood greedily.
The village was drenched in blood. Screams mixed with the tick-tick sound, creating a nightmare straight from hell.
🩸 The First Big Twist
Miguel grabbed an iron spear and struck the monster. The blade ripped through its shoulder.
The Aswang staggered back… and suddenly its form began to change.
The villagers gasped.
The monster transformed into a familiar woman.
It was Isabella — the village midwife who had delivered their children.
For years she had lived among them, helping mothers give birth… while secretly preying on them.
The ground seemed to vanish beneath their feet.
Isabella, the woman they had trusted the most, was the true Shape-Shifter — the Aswang.

👉 In Part 3 you’ll discover:
-
Isabella’s true backstory and how she was cursed.
-
The villagers’ and Miguel’s final battle.

Blood, secrets, and a shocking ending.

Part 3 – "The Cursed Blood"
🌑 The Secret of the Aswang
The villagers stood frozen in shock.
The monster sucking Lucinda’s baby’s blood was none other than the woman they knew as midwife Isabella.
For years she had helped pregnant women deliver their children, but today—her true face was revealed.
Miguel asked, trembling—
“Why did you do this? Why did you kill our children?”
Isabella’s eyes burned red. In a slow, broken voice she said—
“I didn’t want to… but the hunger… this endless hunger… it is a curse.”
🩸 The Backstory of the Curse
Centuries ago, around 1580, Isabella was an ordinary woman.
She was born into a poor family and treated people with herbs.
One day, her mother died in childbirth. Isabella prayed to God:
“Oh Lord, give me the strength so that I can save every woman and every child.”
But her prayer was answered by the darkness.
That night in the forest, she met a strange woman—dressed in black, faceless.
The woman said to Isabella:
“If you accept my power, no woman will ever die in childbirth again… but the price will be paid in blood.”
Isabella agreed.
And at once her body split open—wings and a long tongue sprouted from her.
She became the first Shape-Shifter (Aswang).
From then on, she could help women give birth, but she was forced to devour either the mother or the child. If she refused, her body would burn to ashes.
🌌 The Final Struggle
The villagers attacked Isabella with torches and iron weapons.
But the Aswang’s true form had now fully emerged—
Her wings spread across the entire room.
Her tongue whipped through the air.
Her teeth gleamed like swords.
One by one, she tore the villagers apart and devoured them.
Blood splattered across the walls.
The watchman Rosa’s head was severed, her body collapsing outside the hut.
Lucinda, still weak, lay crying on the ground.
Miguel gripped a spear of iron and clutched his protective talisman.
“Tonight will be your end… no matter what it takes!”
⚔️ The Dance of Death
The Aswang lunged at him. Miguel drove the spear into her chest.
With a scream, the whole house shook.
But the Aswang did not die.
Writhing in pain, she said—
“You think this will kill me? This curse will consume your village too.”
She spread her wings and hurled Miguel against the wall.
Blood poured from his body, but he did not give up.
He swung the spear, aiming to cut off her head.
🩸 The Horrific End
At last, just as the Aswang was about to thrust her tongue into Lucinda’s belly,
Miguel struck with all his strength—
The spear pierced straight through the Aswang’s neck.
She screamed, her body igniting, and turned to ash.
Only her head remained… and her eyes still burned red.
She whispered—
“The curse is not over… The next Shape-Shifter will be born from your own bloodline…”
And then she crumbled into ashes and vanished into the wind.
😱 The Final Twist
A few days later, Lucinda recovered.
But when she again felt movement in her womb…
she remembered—the doctors had said the baby was dead.
Then why was her belly stirring again?
That night, when she placed her hand on her stomach alone,
something inside licked her hand with a long tongue.
Lucinda screamed.
And then, once again, the sound echoed in the room:
Tick… tick… tick…
🔚 The End… Or Perhaps the Beginning!
