🕯️ Story Title:
"HADAL: The Bride of Souls"
(Part 1 – "The Wedding of the Dead Women")
🏞️ Setting:
A remote tribal village in the deep forests of Jharkhand, India — Sambartoli — where even today, after sunset, the air grows heavier, and the trees rustle without wind.
🩸 The Beginning – A Custom Turned Curse
A ritual had been followed in the village for generations:
When a woman died unexpectedly, or during childbirth, and if her body showed signs of spiritual disturbance, she was believed to be turning into a “Hadal Chudail” — an evil spirit of an unfulfilled woman.
To prevent this, her corpse would be married to a neem tree in a ceremony led by the village priest.
The belief was — if she’s “wedded,” her soul would rest.
But one soul refused to be bound.
She escaped… and now, she demands a wedding — a bloody one.
🌧️ The Story Begins – A Rainy Night in 1997
It had been raining endlessly.
A village woman named Shalini died suddenly.
No signs of injury, no illness —
but her face was blue, her eyes bulged out, and her tongue was bitten off.
The priest warned:
“This is the mark of Hadal’s shadow. She must be bound, or others will die.”
Her body was taken to the sacred neem tree.
The marriage ceremony was performed.
But as the fire was lit, a violent storm erupted, and the corpse vanished on its own.
A young boy claimed —
he saw Shalini laughing and climbing the neem tree.
Her eyes were jet black, and she whispered:
“Now, I will decide who marries whom.”
🧟♀️ Three Women Dead — The Pattern Emerges
In the next three weeks, three more women — Sumati, Rita, and Mohini — died mysteriously:
-
Twisted necks
-
Bloodless from the waist down
-
Red bangles shoved in their mouths
An old woman, Maadi Nani, said:
“She’s returned. The one who wasn’t bound. She’s now the Hadal Chudail — bride of stolen souls.”
🕯️ Signs of Hadal’s Presence:
-
Neem leaves turn upward.
-
Dogs howl; goats go mad.
-
Women start banging their heads against walls.
-
Children bleed from their eyes, their faces turning blue.
📿 The Priest Who Knew the Truth
Raghunath, the priest who led Shalini’s tree-wedding, went back to the neem tree to attempt a final ritual.
By morning, his corpse was found hanging upside down from the same tree —
His mouth stuffed with a vermilion (sindoor) box.
On the nearby wall — written in blood:
“No more rituals. I want brides. One every new moon.”
👧 The Girl — Pinky, Daughter of the First Victim
17-year-old Pinky, Shalini’s daughter, starts having vivid nightmares:
A red-saree woman dressing her up like a bride, saying:
“Come child… you’re my daughter-in-law now.”
She begins sleepwalking, her bangles shatter on their own, and her combs catch fire.
One night, she tries to tie herself to the neem tree — villagers save her in time.
Maadi Nani warns:
“Hadal is entering her now. If we don’t stop it by the next new moon… the entire village will be married into death.”
🔥 End of Part 1 – The Wedding Begins
On the new moon night, a final ritual is held to bind Hadal forever.
But Pinky walks into the fire and comes out alive.
Her eyes are pitch black, and her voice is no longer hers:
“I’m no longer Shalini’s daughter. I am Hadal’s daughter. The wedding begins now.”
From every house in the village, the screams of women are heard.
🕯️ Part 2 – “The Grave of Brides”
🩸 The Origin of Hadal
Maadi Nani finally reveals the truth:
“A hundred years ago, a woman named Hadalin was wrongly accused of witchcraft. She was pregnant and unmarried. The villagers beat her to death.”
“Before dying, she cursed: ‘Every woman who dies without rites, I shall make my bride.’”
The neem tree grew over her grave,
and since then, every woman who dies improperly becomes her soul-wife.
🪦 The Hidden Chamber Beneath the Neem Tree
Two young villagers, Manoj and Ravi, dig beneath the tree:
They uncover:
-
Dozens of red sarees
-
Broken bangles
-
Charred wedding items
-
Skeletons of women — all with vermilion in their eye sockets
On one flat stone, engraved words:
“I never wanted this wedding… but I was given no choice.”
🔥 The Final Demand of Hadal
Pinky, now fully possessed, declares:
“Seven more souls. Then my marriage is complete.”
With every new moon, one woman dies.
The village becomes a ghost town.
Men flee, women remain comatose.
🧕 Manoj’s Plan — Showing Pinky Her Real Mother
Desperate, Manoj approaches a mad Tantric, Bhairavnath, who says:
“If Hadal’s daughter sees the soul of her real mother, her grip will weaken.”
Manoj finds Shalini’s bangles and shows them to Pinky:
“You’re not Hadal’s daughter. You’re Shalini’s! These are your mother’s.”
Pinky begins trembling. Burn marks appear on her skin.
Hadal’s control falters.
🔥 The Final Ritual – Burning the Neem Tree
Villagers begin burning the sacred tree.
Pinky floats above the flames, possessed:
“You want to burn my brides? My wedding isn’t over!”
Manoj throws Shalini’s bangles into the fire.
Blood gushes from the tree’s roots.
Pinky falls to the ground — peaceful now, eyes no longer black.
🌕 The End — Or Is It?
Pinky smiles softly:
“I’ve found my mother… I don’t need anyone else.”
She disappears into the flames.
The neem tree burns to ash.
Women start recovering.
But in the last scene —
A small boy picks up a red bangle near the ashes, and says:
“Look, mom! A pretty bracelet I found near the tree!”
Inside the glass bangle, an eye blinks.
🔚 THE END – Or the Beginning Again?
Hadal never forgets.
Whenever a woman dies without final rites…
She will return… to complete the wedding.
