### **Chapter 1: The Cursed Land**

**Darkmoor, England – November 1634**

Snow fell silently, and the air hung heavy with unnatural stillness. Even the trees seemed to hold their breath.

Darkmoor village—just a speck on England's map—held secrets known only to those whose ancestors had lived there. The earth here didn't feel damp... it felt **heavy**, as if weighed down by buried sins.

At the village center stood the crumbling **St. Agnes Church**, its spine bent by time yet still defiant. Locals whispered that something inside **stirred** when night fell.

**Father Thomas Whitman**—a man with weary eyes but unshaken faith—knelt before the altar, his lips moving in soundless prayer.

*"Lord... if You hear me, give me a sign."*

Then—

**"Bong... bong... bong..."**

The church bells rang **by themselves**.

Thomas jerked his head up. His pulse hammered. This wasn't the wind... this was **a presence**.

The door burst open. **Peter Merton**—a young farmer and Thomas's apprentice—stumbled in, wild-eyed.

*"Father! Alice... my sister... she's—*

*—she's floating again!"*

Thomas grabbed his Bible and cloak.

*"The time has come..."* he murmured.

*"Not for prayers now... but for sacrifice."*

---

### **Chapter 1 (Part 2): Alice's Secret**

They ran through the blizzard toward **Merton Farmhouse**, the snow crunching like bones underfoot.

*"She was asleep, then suddenly sat up and spoke—"* Peter gasped, *"but the voice... it wasn't hers. It was an old woman's!"*

The farmhouse door trembled. A shriek ripped through the wood:

*"You're all puppets... I begin the true game now!"*

Thomas kicked the door open. Inside, only a lone lantern's glow fought the darkness.

**Alice Merton**—17 years old—hovered four feet above her bed, spine arched backward. Her eyes had turned **solid white**. Claw marks scarred the walls—an **inverted cross**, strange sigils.

Thomas raised his vial of holy water.

*"Alice! In God's name, return!"*

Her head snapped back. A laugh erupted from her throat—**wrong**, like two voices grating together.

*"Thomas... you burned me in 1630..."*

Ice shot down Thomas's spine.

*"What... what is she saying?"*

Peter whimpered, but Thomas understood. This wasn't Alice.

This was **Mary**.

The window shattered. A shadow moved in the mirror—**no face**, just **burning eyes**.

*"I've returned... and this time... no fire shall touch me..."*

Blood oozed down the wall, forming words:

***"Exorcizamus te, sed sanguinem tuum petimus."***

*(We cast you out... but demand your blood.)*

### **Chapter 2: Ghosts of the Past**

In the church crypt, Thomas uncovered **rotting records**. One name screamed at him:

**Mary Holland**—a girl of 16, **burned as a witch in 1630**.

But beneath the ink, scratched letters whispered:

*"...she begged for mercy... we didn't listen..."*

Thomas's hands shook.

*"Was she innocent?"*

Then he found the entry on **Reverend Jonathan Whitman**—his own ancestor:

*"After the witch burned, the flames rekindled...*

*...and consumed the priest's soul."*

Now Thomas knew—**Mary had come for his bloodline**.

---

### **Chapter 3: Night of Reckoning**

They chained Alice (Mary) to an iron chair in the church. Thomas began the rite:

*"We beseech Thee, O Lord—"*

Alice's eyes turned **blacker than pitch**.

*"I remain where you left me...*

*...in ashes... in agony..."*

The walls **bled**.

Thomas fell to his knees.

*"Mary! I'm not Jonathan!"*

Alice's mouth stretched too wide.

*"But your **blood is his**!"*

A phantom emerged—**Jonathan's ghost**, eyes streaming black tears:

*"This sin is mine... not his..."*

Mary's laughter shook the rafters:

*"Watch now... as your lineage burns!"*

**The explosion lit up the night.**

By dawn, the church was **ash**.

Thomas's corpse lay eyeless.

Alice was **gone**.

### **Chapter 4: The Truth Unearthed**

The village elder **Hugo Grace** found a **hidden page**:

*"The curse breaks only when one **truly understands her pain**."*

Then **12-year-old Ruth** dreamed of a weeping woman in white. She asked:

*"Are you lonely?"*

The spirit—Mary—whispered:

*"You **listened**...*

*...now I may rest."*

Morning came. The snow stopped.

But deep in the woods, a **new house** stood where none had been.

A child's voice giggled:

*"I'm not Alice...*

*...I'll be back."*

**Exorcism: The Last Winter**

*(The End... Or Is It?)*

> **Has the story truly ended?**

## **Exorcism: History, Origins, and Mentions in Sacred Texts**

**Exorcism** is an ancient ritual practice of expelling evil spirits or demons from a person or a place. It has existed across cultures and religions for thousands of years.

---

### **1. Origin of the Term:**

The word **"Exorcism"** comes from the Greek word **ἐξορκισμός (exorkismos)**, meaning "to bind by oath" or "to expel through invocation."

It typically involves a priest or spiritual leader commanding a spirit to leave a person or place in the name of God or a divine authority.

---

### **2. Exorcism in Ancient Civilizations:**

#### **(i) Mesopotamia (c. 3000 BCE):**

Priests used spells, incense, oils, and rituals to drive away evil spirits. Clay tablets describe demons as causes of illness and madness.

#### **(ii) Ancient Egypt:**

The *Book of the Dead* contains incantations for protection from spirits. Amulets, purification rites, and magical spells were commonly used.

#### **(iii) Hinduism:**

Texts like the *Atharva Veda*, *Garuda Purana*, and *Skanda Purana* mention spirit possession and purification.

Chants like **Hanuman Chalisa** and **Narasimha Kavacham** are still used to ward off spirits.

#### **(iv) Judaism (Talmud):**

Describes the exorcism of the **Dybbuk** — a malevolent spirit of the dead that possesses the living. Rituals use prayers, divine names, and Kabbalistic practices.

---

### **3. Exorcism in the Bible:**

#### **New Testament:**

- **Jesus Christ** performed several exorcisms:

  - *Mark 5:1–20* – the story of "Legion."

  - *Matthew 12:43–45* – about a spirit returning after being cast out.

- His disciples were also granted the power to cast out demons.

- The **Catholic Church** adopted the *Rituale Romanum* in 1614, an official guide for exorcism rites.

---

### **4. In Islam:**

- The Quran mentions **jinn** and **Shaitan** (Satan).

- Verses used for protection include **Ayat al-Kursi**, **Surah Al-Baqarah**, and **Surah Al-Jinn**.

- This form of healing is called **Ruqyah**, using Quranic recitation to combat possession.

---

### **5. In Buddhism:**

- Tibetan Buddhism employs mantras, incense, bells, and visualizations to expel spirits.

- The teachings of **Padmasambhava** include rituals for banishing malevolent forces.

---

### **6. In Medieval Europe:**

- The Catholic Church trained official **exorcists**.

- Latin prayers, holy water, crucifixes, and relics were used in ceremonies.

- During the **Inquisition**, mental illness was often mistaken for demonic possession.

---

### **7. Exorcism in Modern Times:**

- The Catholic Church still practices exorcism, but only after thorough medical evaluation.

- Some Protestant churches have "deliverance ministries" for similar purposes.

- The 1973 film **"The Exorcist"** reignited public interest in the ritual.

---

### **8. Exorcism in Present-Day India:**

- Faith healers, shamans, and tantric priests perform exorcisms in regions like **Bengal**, **Rajasthan**, and **Chhattisgarh**.

- Local festivals are held specifically for the expulsion of spirits.

---

## **Conclusion:**

Exorcism is more than a religious ceremony — it's a **global spiritual and cultural phenomenon** deeply rooted in the history of human belief.

Each faith interprets and practices it in unique ways, but the common goal remains: **liberation from evil**.
